Twitter has informed the Delhi high court that it has appointed permanent employees to the three key positions specified under the revised Information Technology (IT) rules.

The company has appointed a chief compliance officer cum resident grievance officer along with a nodal contact person, as required by the rules that govern social media intermediaries.

Twitter’s response came a day after Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and IT, informed Rajya Sabha that Twitter was yet to designate a nodal contact person, while the other two jobs were filled on a “contingent basis.”

During the last hearing, a single judge bench led by Justice Rekha Palli remarked that Twitter was in “total non-compliance” with the IT Rules and gave the company a week to present new affidavits as a “last opportunity” to demonstrate compliance.

The case will be heard again on August 10, 2021.
