The government has extended the deadline to submit applications for participating in the design-led manufacturing scheme under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom and networking products to August 25, 2022. As per the official statement, the extension in the timeline comes in the backdrop of requests made by some of the interested companies.

The design-led manufacturing was included as an amendment to the PLI scheme for telecom and networking products with effect from April 1, 2022. The registration process for the applicants for design-led manufacturing under the PLI scheme for telecom and networking products started on June 21, 2022. Initially, the ministry fixed the deadline as July 20, 2022 which was later extended till August 5, 2022. With the latest round of extension the deadline now set till August 25, 2022.

The amendment in the PLI scheme to include design-led manufacturing was done with the objective to build a strong 5G ecosystem in India, with a financial outlay of Rs 4,000 crore for design-led manufacturing. The design-led manufacturing plan provides shortlisted applicants an additional incentive of 1 per cent for incremental production. Besides, the government had also announced that applicants from design-led manufacturers will be prioritised over other manufacturers while shortlisting.
