Bharti Airtel has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered solution, Fraud Alert, aimed at protecting subscribers from the rising threat of one-time password (OTP)-related banking frauds.
The service has gone live in Haryana and will be rolled out to all customers over the next 14 days, the company said.
As per the company, fraudsters often exploit the urgency linked to OTPs used for everyday services such as deliveries, tricking customers into sharing banking transaction OTPs and exposing their savings to financial loss.
Airtel said its AI-driven solution works alongside its existing spam detection system for voice calls. The system identifies potentially high-risk situations and issues real-time warnings to users. If a banking OTP is generated during a suspicious incoming call, Airtel triggers a fraud alert to inform the customer about the risks of authorising a financial transaction while still on the call, the company said. The new feature is designed to enhance safeguards against banking-related fraud.
