Tanla Platforms has appointed Dr R.S. Sharma, former chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), to its board of directors. According to a regulatory filing, Tanla now has seven directors on its board.
Dr Sharma had a distinguished career in the government for close to five decades. Prior to this, he was the chairman of TRAI between 2015 to 2020. During his tenure at TRAI, Dr Sharma undertook several consumer-centric initiatives that led the Indian market to a massive cut in mobile voice and data tariff to boost Digital India and financial inclusion initiatives.
Over the years, he has spearheaded multiple government initiatives. As chairman of the Empowered Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19 (EGVAC), Dr Sharma steered the design and roll out of Co-Win, the digital backbone of vaccination drive in India.
Further, as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the National Health Authority (NHA), he was instrumental in implementing centre’s health initiatives, such as Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
Furthermore, as a first director general of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Dr Sharma spearheaded the country’s unique identity program, named Aadhaar.
