The Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) Sanchar Saathi initiative enabled the recovery of about 470,000 mobile phones in 2025, marking a 104.35 per cent year-on-year increase from roughly 230,000 handsets recovered in 2024.

The platform, which was launched in 2023, had facilitated the recovery of 65,581 mobile phones in its first year of operations.

Recoveries in 2025 began with 28,115 handsets traced in January, followed by 23,455 in February and 27,055 in March. The pace remained steady in the first half of the year, with 25,799 recoveries in April, 31,244 in May and 34,339 in June, reflecting consistent month-on-month progress and rising public participation, as per DoT.

Additionally, the momentum strengthened further in the second half of the year, with recoveries jumping to 45,911 in July and staying elevated at 45,243 in August. The upward trend continued with 49,909 recoveries in September, increasing to 50,534 in October and reaching 52,590 in November.
