Industries minister Subhash Desai has said that Foxconn will not be setting up its unit in Maharashtra.
This statement by the government has cleared the air around Foxconn’s proposed $5 billion investment in the state to set up a plant to make mobile phones and components and help create 50,000 jobs by 2020.
Earlier in 2015, Maharashtra government had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Foxconn. However, despite multiple meetings and several attempts, things did not materialise. As per industry sources, the government had also identified land parcels in the special economic zone of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.
