As per the government, it will not sell out or disinvest Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Sanchar Nigam Limited (MTNL). Further, the government added that it has planned revival of both the telcos which includes monetisation of assets of BSNL and MTNL as per the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) guidelines.
In this regard, the minister of state for telecommunications and IT, Sanjay Dhotre said that the income from the assets monetisation of BSNL and MTNL would be used to service their debt and fund telcos’ capital expenditure (capex).
As per Dhotre, the valuation had been conducted through registered valuers for the properties identified for monetisation. The tentative value of such properties stands at nearly Rs 249.8 billion and Rs 225.81 billion for BSNL and MTNL respectively.
With regards to employee’s payment and voluntary retirement scheme (VRS), the minister informed Rajya Sabha that around 78,569 employees of BSNL and 14,387 employees of MTNL have opted for VRS. Further, he said that BSNL and MTNL have informed that salary up to the month of December, 2019 has been paid.
Earlier, the government had approved the revival plan for BSNL and MTNL in October 2019.
