Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Arun Jaitley, senior leader, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have severely criticised Kapil Sibal, Minister of Communications and IT?s statement that the exchequer suffered no losses due to 2G spectrum allocation. While Chandrasekhar termed it as an insult to the intelligence of the people of India and media, Jaitley asked why A. Raja, former Minister of Communications and IT was forced to resign if the loss to the exchequer was indeed fictitious.

In a statement, Chandrasekhar said, “To contend that there has been no loss to the exchequer in the face of overwhelming evidence of at least two private companies profiteering from this cheap spectrum, is to insult the intelligence of the people of India and media.?

He added that Sibal should not treat the situation as a private dispute between the BJP and the Congress and added that the government’s handling of this has to meet the test of right and wrong and not simply rely on precedence of history or conduct of a previous government.

Jaitley further commented that Sibal had missed the basic point with regard to the scam and questioned why spectrum was allocated at 2001 prices when the auction itself took place in 2008.
