After a long struggle, Power Grid, RailTel and Oil India will be allowed to provide NLD services across the country. The companies have already received letters of intent from DoT and will be signing the licence agreements soon. The move will help deploy these companies’ massive infrastructure to create telephony access in remote areas. The firms will also be able to lease capacity and bandwidth to other STD aspirants such as MTNL, Sify, Hutchison and Spice.
