After Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has offered to surrender the 3G and BWA spectrum it holds in certain circles.

R. Chandrasekhar, secrertary, Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has said that since the notice inviting applications for 3G and BWA auctions did not have a surrender option, the issue needed to be examined closely.

MTNL had paid Rs 110.98 billion for the spectrum. MTNL and BSNL had received spectrum a year before the auction.

The arrangement was that post auctions, the companies would match the payment made by the highest bidders.
