According to news reports, BSNL is likely to see a revenue shortfall of Rs 12 billion if the government goes ahead with its “One India” plan. This plan would hit BSNL’s main source of revenue, the long distance segment. The One India plan envisages a common tariff for all domestic calls in the country, irrespective of the distance.

The company is looking at options to make up for the revenue shortfall that would ensue. One option would be to increase local calls rates from the current Re 0.80 per minute. BSNL has written to DoT about the impact of this plan on its profits.
