As part of its nationwide rollout of an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered fraud detection system, Bharati Airtel has safeguarded over 2.1 million users in Maharashtra within just 50 days of deployment reportedly.
The system, enabled by default for all Airtel mobile and broadband users, scans and filters uniform resource locators (URLs) shared via SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, email, and web browsers. It leverages real-time threat intelligence to analyse over a billion URLs every day and blocks malicious websites in under 100 milliseconds.
With Mumbai being one of India’s most digitally active cities, incidents of online fraud, such as phishing attempts, fake delivery notifications, and bogus banking alerts, have become increasingly common. Airtel’s system offers an added layer of protection to diverse user groups, including families, senior citizens, students, and digital newcomers.
Further, the service runs silently in the background, requires no additional installation, and is free of charge. In a city that is swiftly adopting online banking and digital governance services, Airtel’s AI initiative is helping create a safer digital ecosystem.
