According to data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the GSM user base in the country registered a marginal growth in January 2013 with the addition of 400,000 users.

In January 2013, the country?s total GSM user base stood at 657.5 million. Idea Cellular netted in highest number of new users in the month of January. The operator added 2.45 million subscribers to take its user base to 116.4 million. Bharti Airtel added 2.28 million users in the period under consideration, to take its subscriber base to 184.1 million. At the end of January 2013, Vodafone?s subscriber base stood at 147.7 million with the addition of 200,000 users.

However, operators like Aircel, Uninor and Videocon lost subscribers in January 2013. For the period under consideration, Aircel and Uninor lost 1.77 million and 1.4 million customers, respectively. Uninor lost 26,550 customers in Mumbai circle alone where it shut down its operations following the Supreme Court order. Videocon?s total subscriber base stood at 2.25 million at the end of January 2013 with the loss of 1.3 million users.

The data released by COAI does not include GSM subscriber base of Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices Limited.
