P.K. Purwar has been appointed chairman and managing director (CMD) of Mahanagar Tele­phone Nigam Limited (MTNL). MTNL has been without a full-time CMD since May 30, 2014, following the retirement of A.K. Garg. Purwar, then director of finance at MTNL, was given addi­­tio­­nal charge after Garg retired from office. Later, in June 2015, this charge was given to Narendra Kumar Yadav. Purwar was again given additional charge as CMD, MTNL, after Yadav stepped down from the post upon completion of his tenure in June 2016.
