The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has raised concerns over the amalgamation of Unitech Wireless? eight subsidiaries into Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu).
The company had applied for 2G licences under eight companies and then merged the entities. The amalgamation was approved by the Delhi High Court but DoT has said that it ought to have taken prior permission from it for the merger.
An internal DoT note stated, ?Permission for transferring the licence is required, when the licences of overlapping areas are in question, such as in the present case. It becomes even more important when some of the licenses are not more than three years old. Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu) had not taken DoT?s prior approval before filing a petition in the Delhi High Court, wherein the Court sanctioned the amalgamation of the companies.?
