Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a contract by Azerbaijan’s Delta Telecom to deploy the country’s first commercial Wi-Max 802.16e-2005 (Rev-e) network.

Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a contract by Azerbaijan’s Delta Telecom to deploy the country’s first commercial Wi-Max 802.16e-2005 (Rev-e) network. The contract includes stationary, nomadic and mobile applications for sparsely populated areas where it is not cost effective to deploy fixed broadband services.

Delta plans to launch commercial services on the network by the end of 2008. No financial details have been disclosed.
