South Korea’s fixed line telephone operator KT Corporation is planning to invest $1.5 billion in its internet protocol TV (IPTV) business by 2012. The telecom operator is currently offering trial IPTV services including real-time TV programme transmission.

So far, KT has provided only video-on-demand and some interactive features through its internet-powered MegaTV. KT expects to make its IPTV services commercially available by endOctober 2008 and is aiming to break even as early as 2011.

Meanwhile, KT will start negotiations with US-based TV networks to provide more comprehensive news coverage through its IPTV platform.
