DoT has barred private national long distance (NLD) operators from carrying intra-circle telephone calls made to BSNL subscribers.
According to it, BSNL can continue to exercise its monopoly for carrying such calls. This means that a telephone call made by an Airtel user in Lucknow to a BSNL subscriber in Agra must be carried by BSNL on its network. Private operators have opposed the move and are asking the government to withdraw the order.
