According to Ericsson, India will have over 100 million 4G connections by 2020. However, the company is of the view that 3G will remain the main technology to drive mobile broadband growth for at least the next three years, after which the uptake of 4G technology will increase.
It added that in order to achieve this growth, the telecom operators will need more spectrum to further strengthen their networks. To this end, Ericsson is planning to provide licence-assisted solutions with which the operators can use licenced spectrum for controlled services to meet the regulatory requirements, and use the unlicenced band to offload data traffic.
The company has also stated that it is planning to look beyond its core business into areas like cloud computing and internet based network, industry and society, media transmission and operation and billing software.
