BellSouth shareholders have approved the proposed sale of their company to AT&T for $67 billion in stock. The deal would expand AT&T’s reach and put the two companies’ wireless joint venture Cingular under one roof. Once completed, the deal will phase out the names BellSouth and Cingular. AT&T has planned to cut up to 10,000 jobs over the next three years if its purchase of BellSouth is approved.
