Eicsson is expected to win a major order from Brazilian operator Vivo for building a new GSM network in the South American country. The deal may reportedly be worth “billions of Swedish kroners”. Vivo, the Brazilian joint venture between Portugal Telecom SGPS and Telefonica Moviles, is South America’s largest telecommunications operator. Separately, after the recent acquisition of Marconi for $2.1 billion in January 2006, Ericsson posted a 2 per cent drop in second quarter profits as it struggled to integrate this change. Earnings were also hit by an amortisation charge of $55 million related to the UK-based Marconi.
