National roaming charges on mobile phones could decrease as the TRAI is considering adopting a model similar to the one being implemented by the European Commission. It seeks to lower the cap on roaming tariffs charged by operators. TRAI currently imposes a cap of Rs 3.45 per minute (including surcharge) on airtime charges for domestic roaming calls. Operators, however, charge anywhere between Rs 4 and Rs 6 per minute after including various charges.
