
The China Unicom Group, China’s number two mobile phone network operator, plans to invest 15.1 billion yuan in mobile networks in 2006. Of this, it will spend 12.4 billion yuan on its GSM mobile network and 2.7 billion yuan on its CDMA network, according to news reports. China Unicom’s GSM network investment will include 410 million yuan in Beijing, 310 million yuan in Shanghai and 1.5 billion yuan in southern China’s Guangdong province this year. The company’s GSM subscribers increased by 10.8 million to 95.07 million in 2005, while the number of CDMA subscribers increased by 4.91 million to 32.72 million for the same period.
