The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has informed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) that the latter’s letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 2G spectrum pricing did not provide a comprehensive picture.
In a letter to TRAI, COAI said, ?The Authority’s letter does not reflect the true and full picture on crucial issues and includes certain inconsistencies and contradictions.?
The regulator had sent a letter to the CBI in connection with the agency?s scrutiny of the deals carried out in the 2G spectrum case. In the letter, TRAI said that it did not recommend an auction or an increase in the entry fee for new players, nor did it set a price for spectrum beyond 6.2 Mhz.
The industry body said that TRAI did not explain the legal reasons for not suggesting a price for spectrum beyond 6.2 Mhz. COAI said that TRAI had adopted a contradictory stance.
?We are concerned that the authority is applying different rules to different sets of operators, thus acting against the fundamental objectives of existing policies, as well as the TRAI Act,? COAI?s letter to TRAI stated.
