ZTE Corporation, China’s largest listed telecom manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider, has signed a $95 million contract with Nigeria’s Communications Ministry to provide a rural network to complete wireless coverage throughout Nigeria, a handset manufacturing facility and an exhibition and training centre. Under the agreement, ZTE will build on an earlier project to bring a rural network to 110 local government regions in Nigeria. The second phase of the project will extend the network to the remaining 225 local government regions. ZTE will also establish a handset manufacturing facility and an exhibition and training centre in the capital Abuja to train local telecom employees. ZTE is one of the first telecom equipment manufacturers to work in Nigeria and has since developed close partnerships with leading local operators.
