According to WhatsApp’s monthly compliance report, the app banned 2.39 million Indian accounts in July 2022, the highest so far in 2022. Of these, 1.42 million were proactively banned before any reports from users.

Further, several accounts were banned based on complaints received through the company’s grievances channels and the tools and resources it uses to detect such offences. In July 2022, WhatsApp received a total of 574 grievance reports.

Meanwhile, as per Twitter’s monthly report, the platform banned 45,191 accounts of Indian users over violation of its guidelines in July 2022. Of these, as many as 42,825 accounts were suspended for promoting child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity and similar content, while 2,366 accounts were blocked for promoting terrorism.

Twitter received 874 grievances for abuse and harassment through its local grievance mechanism and acted on 70 complaints in the month of July 2022. The number of complaints for hateful conduct stood at 303, while it received 13 complaints for internet protocol (IP)-related infringement. In addition, Twitter said that it processed 124 grievances which were appealing account suspensions.
