Globally, revenue for wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM)-based optical equipment (excluding components) grew by 11 per cent and stood at $4.5 billion in 2013, says Infonetics Research.
The research firm forecasts that WDM ROADM-based optical equipment will continue to be the fastest-growing segment of the optical transport business with a compound annual growth rate of 13 per cent between 2013 and 2018.
Further, worldwide revenue from ROADM wavelength selective switch (WSS) components declined by eight per cent in 2013 due to drop in prices. However, with the production of colorless, directionless, and contentionless ROADMs this year and the likely deployment of the same by leading operators, Infonetics Research expects both WSS component unit shipments and revenue to increase in 2014.
