VyomIC, a Chennai based space start-up, is planning to build a private global satellite constellation to deliver high-precision positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. The start-up will deploy low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide these PNT capabilities.
The firm aims to offer centimetre-level positioning and nanosecond-level timing which is vital for defence, finance, telecom, and autonomous systems. It also targets spoofing-proof, jamming-resistant signals to address weaknesses in current systems such as global positioning system (GPS) and global navigation satellite system (GLONASS). With LEO satellites, the network would enable higher precision, faster convergence, stronger signal power, and better coverage in dense urban and signal-challenged settings.
Further, as per VyomIC, the constellation would unlock indoor PNT, enabling navigation within enclosed spaces and buildings that were previously out of reach.
