Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) announced on Friday that it has received a Rs 167.3 million Goods and Services Tax (GST) demand order from the deputy commissioner, Large Taxpayer Unit, West Bengal. The telecom operator, however, disagrees with the order and plans to file an appeal against it.

The order was issued under Section 73 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, in conjunction with the West Bengal Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, imposing a penalty of Rs 16,73,33,489, along with the tax demand and applicable interest.

Further, the case relates to alleged excess availing of Input Tax Credit and short payment of tax. The total financial impact for the company will be limited to the tax demand, interest, and penalty imposed.
