The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has disposed of Vodafone Idea Limited’s (Vi) representation with respect to licence fee demand totalling Rs 32.73 billion.

In a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange, Vi informed that DoT has disposed of the company’s representation and objections in respect of licence fee demand of Rs 17.49 billion and Rs 15.24 billion, respectively, including interest till March 31, 2023, for the fiscal years 2015-16 and 2016-17. The telco added that it has in the past written to the DoT to correct the errors in demands up to FY17 which DoT has not acted upon so far. Further, it noted that if it is permissible for DoT to modify the demands for the period covered by the Supreme Court judgment, then there are various errors which need to be corrected and which would reduce the demand crystallised by the Supreme Court. According to the telco, it had filed a review petition seeking directions from the Supreme Court to carry out correction of these errors and the same continues to be pending.

Vi added that it is in the process of deciding the next course of action.
