The Japanese government is planning to invest $30.6 billion in the country’s information and communications technology sector over the next three years. The plan, headed by Prime Minister Taro Aso, is seen as a way of counteracting a projected 6 per cent contraction in the ICT sector this year, based on data provided by the International Monetary Fund. Japan hopes its three-year emergency plan, which is expected to be approved by a panel of experts by end-April, will create up to half a million new jobs in the industry.
