According to data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India, the GSM subscriber base reached 664.4 million in April 2013, from 660.9 million in the previous month.

Moreover, Vodafone India added the most subscribers, at 1.42 million, taking its total user base to 153.7 million. Meanwhile, Videocon Mobile Services registered the highest growth rate of 6.49 per cent in the period under consideration. It added 130,000 new users in April 2013.

Bharti Airtel, which added 600,000 new users during the period under consideration, continued to lead the pecking order, with a 28.41 per cent share. The company’s total subscriber base stood at 188 million at the end of April.

Idea Cellular added 1.28 million customers and its total user base stood at 122.8 million in the period under consideration. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s user base stood at 97.1 million in April 2013, while Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited had over 4.71 million customers during the same period.
