The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has allocated start-up spectrum to new licensees including Shyam Telelink, Unitech and Datacom in the Kerala circle. Unitech has received start-up spectrum to roll out GSM services in the Andhra Pradesh circle. While Shyam has been given 2.5 MHz of CDMA spectrum, others have been allocated 4.4 MHz of GSM spectrum. Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) has also received GSM spectrum in Kerala under the dual technology clause while Shyam Telelink has been allotted CDMA spectrum in the Maharashtra circle. Meanwhile, the government has reportedly cleared the way for the allotment of additional spectrum beyond 6.2 MHz to Bharti Airtel in the Karnataka circle. However, this decision will be subject to the revised spectrum pricing policy being examined by DoT.
