DoT has filed a petition with the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) seeking the recovery of Rs 20.15 billion from Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited for defaulting on the payment of the licence fee for the Karnataka circle. In the petition, DoT has stated that while the Tatas had bid for the licence to provide basic telecom services in the Maharashtra and Karnataka circles in 1995, they had failed to pay the licence fees for the latter.
