According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), telecom subscriber base in the country increased from 979.21 million as of January 31, 2015 to 987.30 million as of February 28, 2015, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.83 per cent.

The total wireless subscriber base in the country increased by 0.86 per cent, from 952.34 million subscribers in January 2015 to 960.58 million subscribers in February 2015. The growth in the mobile segment was led by Bharti Airtel, which registered a net increase of over 3 million new subscribers. It was followed by Idea Cellular with net addition of 2.56 million subscribers, Vodafone India (1.95 million), Reliance Communications (RCOM) (1.24 million), Aircel (915,000), Telewings Communications (665,000) and Videocon Telecom (330,000). Further, Tata Teleservices Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited witnessed marginal increase of 57,542 and 18,532 new customers in February 2015. Meanwhile, Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited witnessed a decline in its subscriber base, by 37,293 customers.

The total wireline subscriber base declined from 26.8 million in January 2015 to 26.7 million in February 2015. While Bharti Airtel witnessed net addition of 11,768 customers, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) witnessed a net reduction of 62, 556 subscribers, during the same period. Meanwhile, the broadband subscriber base increased by 3.05 per cent from 94.4 million in January 2015 to 97.3 million in February 2015. As on February 28, 2015, the top five wireless broadband service providers were Bharti Airtel (19.45 million), Vodafone (17.92 million), Idea Cellular (14.08 million), BSNL (10.69 million) and RCOM (7.67 million).
