The Odisha government has announced that local semiconductor production is expected to begin by the end of December this year. Mukesh Mahaling, State Electronics and IT minister, shared this update in the Assembly while responding to a query.

Mahaling stated that the government has allotted 20,000 square feet to RIR Power Electronics for setting up a unit at EMC Park, Infovalley, in Bhubaneswar. The unit is anticipated to commence semiconductor product manufacturing by the end of December. He also mentioned that several memorandums of understandings (MoUs) have been signed with Singapore-based firms to support the development of Odisha’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Additionally, Mahaling informed that around 300 IT companies have established operations in Odisha between 1997 and 2024. The government has allocated Rs 1000 million in the budget for the development of eight new Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs), and data centres are planned for Keonjhar and Koraput districts. Besides, the state government has initiated plans to set up a Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Puri.
