The BlackBerry phone maker, Research in Motion (RIM) has agreed to share its encryption keys with the Government of India, say news reports.

For the last four years RIM was involved in a standoff with the government over providing encryption keys for its corporate emails and messenger services. The government was seeking access to Blackberry encryption keys to meet various needs of its intelligence and security agencies.

Recently, RIM demonstrated a solution which could intercept messages and emails exchanged between BlackBerry handsets. Following this, RIM will provide the government with readable format of the encrypted keys. With access to encryption keys, the government will be able to monitor all communication on BlackBerry smartphones on a real-time basis.
