Qualcomm is reportedly facing escalating legal costs and declining profits after failing to make any progress in its royalty dispute with telecom manufacturer Nokia. A cross-licensing agreement that permits Nokia to use Qualcomm’s technology expires on April 9. After this date, Nokia will stop paying royalties on Qualcomm’s patents, while Qualcomm will lose its right to sell integrated circuits under Nokia’s patents. Recently, a group comprising Nokia, Ericsson and Texas Instruments complained to Qualcomm about the royalties it charges.
