PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) had selected the Macquarie Group to advise it on a telecom tower deal worth about $1.2 billion. The operator intends to buy out Singapore Telecommunications’ (SingTel) interests in PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel), which has about 20,000 telecom towers. Telkom owns 65 per cent of Telkomsel and SingTel owns 35 per cent. The tower business is valued at $88,690-$133,000 per tower. Once the deal is finalised, the company will consolidate the towers under its unit, PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi, which will focus on the telecom infrastructure business and will be listed on the bourses shortly thereafter.
