According to the prime minister, space technology (spacetech) is increasingly becoming integral to governance in India, with applications ranging from crop insurance assessments and safety services for fishermen to disaster management and geospatial support for the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

Prime minister’s office (PMO) noted that 350 homegrown spacetech startups are driving innovation across diverse use cases. The prime minister urged the private sector to aim for the creation of at least five spacetech unicorns over the next five to six years and set a target of 50 rocket launches annually within the next five years, compared to the current average of five to six launches.

Meanwhile, the director-general of the Indian Space Association (ISpA) highlighted that homegrown private space firms are now leading innovation in launch capabilities, satellite technologies, and downstream applications, strengthening India’s global competitiveness.
