Pakistan’s Universal Service Fund (USF) has announced two new projects. For the first, it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Wateen Telecom for the latter to install 900 km of fibre optic cable in Balochistan in a deal worth PKR374 million. The project will bring fibre connectivity to five unserved administrative divisions in the province, and will cover around 335,000 people. The second project will see incumbent Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) provide basic voice and data services in the unserved districts of Larkana and Shikarpur in Sindh province. The USF will provide PTCL with PKR228 million to carry out the work, and up to 165,000 people will be covered under the project.
