Pakistan-based mobile operator Mobilink, a wholly owned subsidiary of Orascom Telecom Holding, has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy the first live Wi-Max network (also called Rev. E) in Pakistan, based on the 802.16e-2005 standard. Under the contract, AlcatelLucent will supply its universal Wi-Max end-to-end solution, including base stations, wireless access controllers, an operation and maintenance centre, customer premises equipment, and network integration services to Mobilink. The network will reportedly be deployed in the 3.5 GHz spectrum, enabling implementation of broadband services in fixed and nomadic environments.
