The parliament was informed that, as of December 12, 2022, over 600,000 complaints of cybercrime have been registered at the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System since its inception in 2019.

The Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), was launched for immediate reporting of financial frauds and to curb siphoning off funds by fraudsters. To this end, toll-free helpline number ‘1930’ has been operationalised for assistance in lodging online cyber complaints.

Of the total cases of cybercrime, in more than 111,000 complaints financial amount of more than Rs 1.88 billion have been saved by the entity.

As a precautionary measure, a multi-layered security approach has been adopted for the safety of census data. Data is encrypted at the data collection device, during the transmission and at servers and storage to curb cybercrime cases. Moreover, the parliament was informed that advisories from National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) and Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) are implemented on a regular basis to secure data centres.
