In a strategic push to position Odisha as a global digital hub, the state government’s Electronics and IT Department has initiated plans to establish a cable landing station (CLS) in Puri. Manoj Ahuja, chief secretary, government of Odisha, reviewed the progress of the detailed project report (DPR) on Wednesday, which is being jointly developed by RailTel and Deloitte.

As per the official release, the project aims to bolster the state’s digital infrastructure, attract investments in data centres, bring in leading technology players, and create employment opportunities. Ahuja stressed the importance of engaging with hyperscalers and key ecosystem stakeholders to ensure a robust and future-ready execution. He also directed that the DPR be submitted promptly for approval, with the goal of completing the project within three years.

The Odisha CLS is a flagship initiative designed with a long-term vision for scalability and ecosystem development. The state government reiterated its commitment to making Odisha a hub for digital investments, unlocking vast opportunities for businesses, technology firms, and the local workforce.

Further, Puri was selected as the preferred location for the CLS due to its strategic geographic position, favourable coastline, scalability potential, and strong infrastructure.

Once operational, the facility will offer direct international fibre connectivity, leading to reduced latency, faster internet speeds, and positioning Odisha as a key destination for hyperscalers, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), and enterprises. The project is expected to elevate the state’s role in the global digital network and reinforce India’s position in the data-driven economy.
