Finland based Nokia Networks and France-based Alcatel Lucent are reportedly planning to merge their operations and are having discussions on the possible merger. The merger will likely benefit the two network solutions providers as the deal could allow Nokia to grow its core network equipment and services business, while allowing Alcatel Lucent to restructure and reduce its debt obligations.
Earlier in September 2013, Nokia Networks had considered acquiring Alcatel-Lucent’s wireless division as part of its strategic restructuring, during the acquisition of its devices and services business by Microsoft. However, the company later backed off from the Alcatel-Lucent deal.
