Uninor is planning to conduct narrow-band long term evolution (LTE) trials in India. The company has stated that it can only offer limited 4G services on the spectrum acquired in February 2014 and therefore, has planned the trials due to a shortage of spectrum.
In February 2014, Uninor had acquired spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in five circles – Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Assam for Rs 8.44 billion. The operator will launch its services in Assam in early 2015.
Meanwhile, Uninor is planning to improve its voice and data capacity by 20-25 per cent in the Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Bihar and Andhra Pradesh circles.
