Reliance Jio will launch 5G services based on standalone (SA) architecture in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata by Diwali. It will be expanded to other cities and towns in phases to cover the entire country by December 2023.
Speaking at the company’s 45th annual general meeting, Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director, Reliance Industries Limited, said that the telco will invest Rs 2 trillion towards its 5G network deployment. He added that the deployment of Jio 5G would be the largest and most advanced 5G network globally, which also comprises its own end-to-end 5G stack.
Further, Ambani noted that the SA architecture with zero dependency on the 4G network will enable Jio to offer an unparalleled combination of coverage, capacity, quality, and affordability. 5G SA will enable the telco to deliver new and powerful services with low latency, massive machine-to-machine communication, 5G voice, edge computing, and network slicing, and the metaverse. Jio is in talks with all smartphone brands to support its 5G SA service.
Also, he added that the company will launch billions of smart sensors with connected intelligence that will trigger the internet of things and fuel the fourth industrial revolution. It will connect everyone, every place, and everything with the highest quality and most affordable data.
