DoT has reportedly rejected Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s BSNL) application for entering the Delhi and Mumbai circles where Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) already offers services.

DoT has reportedly rejected Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) application for entering the Delhi and Mumbai circles where Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) already offers services. According to DoT, competition between two public sector units (PSUs) in the same service areas will benefit neither shareholders nor customers. Meanwhile, MTNL has written to TRAI to consider the two PSUs as a single entity for regulatory purposes. The company has also asked the government to revive talks of a possible merger with BSNL.
