Hardware giants Intel and Nokia have announced a cooperation to accelerate the standardisation and development of the wireless broadband technology Wi-Max. The two companies will collaborate in several areas including infrastructure and market development. The plans focus on mobile Wi-Max, which allows roaming among base stations, as opposed to fixed Wi-Max. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is yet to ratify the WiMax standard, known as 802.16e. While ratification is due by the end of 2005, the products will probably hit the market in 2007.
