According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India’s broadband subscriber base crossed the one-billion mark in November 2025, underscoring the scale of the country’s digital connectivity expansion over the past decade. The number of broadband users has grown more than six times over the last ten years.
TRAI data shows that India had 131.49 million broadband subscribers at the end of November 2015. This figure increased to approximately 1 billion by the end of November 2025, reflecting sustained growth in internet access across urban and rural regions. The sharp rise in broadband adoption is in line with the government’s emphasis on strengthening advanced telecommunications infrastructure nationwide.
In addition, a year-end review released by the Ministry of Communications highlighted record growth in internet and mobile penetration, the rapid pan-India rollout of 5G services, and notable progress in indigenous technology development. One of the key achievements cited was the launch of the National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0 in January 2025, which aims to further accelerate India’s digital transformation. It focuses on extending high-speed broadband connectivity to villages, schools, health centres, and other anchor institutions, in line with the government’s broader vision of achieving a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
